About Us

Why do we exist?

CoGurukul comes from the combination of two words- Community and Gurukul. The literal translation of Gurukul is- the home or family of the Master. A key component of our philosophy is that the master resides in all of us. Learning and Growing requires awakening the Master within and acknowledging the Master in others. On one hand, this saves us from passively following another and on the other hand, we are saved from missing our blind-spots as others can see what we cannot.
 
This is a radical way of looking at learning where we are the Learner and the Master in the same body.
 
This project is focussed on learning for emotional wellbeing. Another key component of our philosophy is that for certain people, emotional health needs independent work. Academic qualifications and financial security do not necessarily lead to emotional well-being. The general suggestions like “Stay Positive” or “Just do it” fall short. In some cases, they fall miserably short. This points to the cultural challenge which leads to the isolation of the individual. And this becomes a major impediment to growth. This is where a compassionate and trauma-informed community comes in to fill that void.
 
We acknowledge emotional trauma as a major contributing factor to this issue and that each person has a unique healing journey. The kind and the depth of intervention(s) vary. The members play an active role in their own healing journey and in the journey of others. We are together in this!
 

What do we do?

1. Blog: This is maintained by the members of the community who are interested in writing. We write about aspects of our journey. We focus on acknowledging our struggles and vulnerabilities along with our achievements. And everything is part of the journey. We share from our heart so that we may reach the heart of the other.

2. Book Club: We run an offline Book Club in Bir, Himachal Pradesh, India. The members read a section of the book and meet once a week. The books are about healing from traumatic stress. Online book circles will be organized in the future.

3. Self-Healing Circle: This is a group interested in actively working on their healing in a group setting. This allows us to learn new ways of being. The learning here follows the bottoms-up approach. The body (or the emotional brain) learns first and the Prefrontal Cortex integrates it later. This happens in an offline safe space.

4. Self-Leadership Coaching: Selected members offer one-to-one coaching program which is a short-term intervention that allows one to connect with the inner master. This program is designed to allow the person to continue the self-work on one’s own. This is a top-down approach. The Prefrontal Cortex learns through creating new neural pathways and this creates new emotional (body) experiences later. This can happen remotely over an audio or video call.

5. Collaboration: We plan to help you to design a Trauma-Informed program.

6. Retreats and Workshops: We plan to offer these at regular intervals. Work in progress!
